"Herbert Doughty"
from the IGS archive
Though Herb Doughty is a founder of the Berkeley Go Club, back in the 1960's, Yari (Jada) Lesky and David Wolfe started the present iteration of the club in the late 1980's. The club met over on 8th and Parker St. then moved to the other end of the same block.
In the early 1990's the club moved downtown to an upstairs space at 100 Berkeley Square & Shattuck. Mark Rampel (club President) and Herb ran the club until '97 when Mark Harris took over.
In 1999 the club moved yet again to its present location in South Berkeley, upstairs from the Fifth String Instrument store on Adeline and Essex. St.

Today
We are currently housed in a cozy nook on Adeline Street. In addition to a library of both old and new Go books, we offer snacks and beverages at reasonable prices. We offer games of Go with players from novice to high dan.
Future
Up ahead, the Berkeley Go Club will be looking for a new larger space to meet. This will allow us to host more tournaments, regional events and play for Weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.
